I am sick. And miserable. And grumpy. I have a fever, hot and cold flashes and range between curling up in a ball under five blankets and sitting up (as I am now) sweltering hot. Just a little FYI...
Another FYI....
The day before yesterday I was sitting on the sofa watching TV with Hawkydog at my feet when I caught an odd movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked down and was confused for a moment, unsure what it was I was seeing. Hawk's whole body was rocking back and forth, back and forth, his neck and head were swiveling like a snakes and his eyes were darting side to side. He looked very disoriented. It only lasted about thirty seconds but it was absolutely terrifying. I immediately got on the phone with the vet and explained what had just happened and thankfully they were able to slip me in between appointments at the end of the day. The vet checked his ears, eyes, gums, and bum and everything appeared normal. He said that what he had was a seizure and that it is most likely the onset of epilepsy (which usually appears between 5-6...Hawk turned six Sept 18th). Epilepsy is not a life threatening disease and can be treated but is hard to diagnose and so we took blood and checked that there was nothing else wrong. The blood came back yesterday and everything was all clear, thank goodness. We are still doing some more tests but for now it is a relief to know that Hawky is generally in good health....I wish I could say the same....
However, I was reminded this afternoon how fragile life can be and how thankful I am that I merely have a flu and that all my loved ones are alive and well. Today marks the anniversary of the tragic accident that took my cousin Cole's life. Sweet, funny, good hearted, unique and charming, he was such a special man with a wonderful spirit. My heart goes out to my Auntie, Uncle and his brother, time doesnt heal all.
I also have to say that my heart is with my brother tonight as he was first on scene to a major car accident in which one 19-year-old boy lost his life. I know he is struggling to come to terms with the haunting images of the horrific injuries and the trauma of watching a man die under his hand.
Lastly, I'll close on a positive note by wishing all my Canadian friends a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Glad Hawky Dog is OK and wishing you a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeletethat's scary about your dog, glad it's nothing else! Good luck with feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAh a long weekend. Hope you are on the mend. Hopefully Hawky will not have another hit like that!
ReplyDeleteSeizures are scary. Hope the sun peeks through the clouds in your world.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you, and hope you're on the mend soon!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your Hawky dog!! Hope he is doing okay, and I hope you are feeling better soon too!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
Poor Hawky Dog! Having dealt with people seizures (my husband and his infernal hay allergy!), I can tell you that they look worse to us than they actually are to our loved ones, furry or human. However, they're still quite scary to watch!
ReplyDeleteI am worried about my Copper. His eye sight seems to be worsening at 20 months. I think there's more than just iris colomboma going on. However, this will require a long trip to see a specialist at OSU.
You and Hawky are in our thoughts here. We're hoping for a speedy recovery and no re-occurrences for either of you.
Ah yikes, I would have freaked if I saw my dog have a seizure! I am glad he is okay. I dog sit two different dogs, both elderly and I worry every time I stay with them that something will go wrong due to their age.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you are sick, I'm still battling allergies/a cold and today an awful migraine, ick! Hang in there!!
Wow, it seems like everyone is sick right now, I am just getting over a nasty cold myself. I'm hoping that Hawkydog is feeling better and you might know more answers when the blood work comes back. That would have scared me for sure to see that. Get better
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon and your dog has nothing major wrong with him. Sounds like he'll be okay though.
ReplyDeletePoor boy! Seizures are so horrible to watch! I feel your pain. Diesel has had three and a possible one, same diagnoses and everything. Thankfully, they have been few and far between, but they make you feel so useless!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that he's ok:)
*HUGS*
Wow! Some heavy stuff going on in your world, girl! All the best to your family in dealing with their grief. I also just wanted to tell you not to get too wound up just yet about the seizure. Sometimes dogs just have one for some unknown reason (although I do know that my sister's dog had one at about age 10 and the vet blamed the heartworm meds - she never had another). Unless it becomes regular, it's probably not much to worry about. We had a Dane with epilepsy for about 5 years - then suddenly the seizures stopped just as quickly as they started. Good luck, hoping for the best for you all.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are starting to feel better. This flu bug is wiping people out right and left. Sounds like many in bloggerland have suffered it's ill effects. My Honey's started out as a cough last week. One of those irritating, can't control it coughs. He thought he had it licked on Sunday...Monday afternoon it slammed him in the head and he was down for a day and a 1/2. Couldn't even move. Usually I don't have a lot of sympathy for him. You know what big babies men can be. But this time I felt really bad for him. I could tell he was hurting.
ReplyDeleteAnyway...I hope you are feeling better yourself.
And that is very strange about Hawkeye. I guess I hadn't ever heard much about heelers being suseptable to epilepsy?
