Boom-de-ya-da!

Would you think it crazy if I told you that there is a silly little Discovery Channel commercial has the power to get me choked up (every time)....

Or that the first time I watched this commercial I had tears streaming down my face....

And for some inexplicable reason, I find it moving beyond words?

And I think those who know me well can vouch for the fact that I am not the type to cry at the drop of a hat.... my darlin' sister on the other hand... sorry Fel...you know its true!

I was tempted to try to explain why it is I love it... the sense it gives you that we truly are a global community, that we are bound together by a common quest for understanding.... that the world is greater than we are as individuals.... and that it is a never ending source of inspiration...

And yes, as a matter of fact, my Mother and Father were 60's flower power hippies!

But regardless....

What am I talking about?

This....

  1. I've never paid any attention to it before. Both Dude and Doodle are big Discovery Channel lovers and I've heard them both sing parts of this song before. I'd just assumed it was something Dude learned in music class and taught Doodle (for religious reasons, I don't think her school would condone this song). Then again, 7 year olds DO have a penchant for repeating everything they see on commercials. Glad to know where the song comes from!

  3. Love (love!) that commercial - it gives me goosebumps (I'm not much of a crier lol!)...

How about this one from the Olympics? It's not quite as good maybe - but the last guy they show gives me goosebumps too...

Here is an article on the guy in case anyone is curious...

  4. I have to admit something, I watch quite a lot of TV but hardly any commercials. (I tape everything on the hard drive of our cable box so I just fast forward most commercials)
This commercial I do watch when I notice it though because I love it :)

  5. I've always loved that add and find myself singing along any time it comes on. And my CB especially loves the big BOOM-DE-YA-DA at the end lol

I love how soft and sweet Bear Grylls voice is!! (I must admit that I have a TINY crush on the man!)

Great commercial, Chesli, now we must do something about your YouTube obsession...lol!!! (Just kidding!)

  9. I've watched that before, too. I can't say that it made me cry (though I have been known to shed a few tears for commericals, too...hehe) but it did make me grin from ear to ear.

You're right, there is just something so beautiful and awesome about realizing that the worldand everything in it is so much bigger than we are as individuals, but yet we are all apart of it and share this great big planet.

I can only imagine how heart-bursting it must feel to be an astronaut and see the entire earth from space, though. Life changing, I'm sure. You'd never be the same again...

Thanks for a terrific 'thinking' post, yet again. :)
