"Put on your shaggin' shoes! We're goin' dancin'"

Does anyone remember this movie?

About 4 teenage girls that escape to Myrtle Beach, SC one weekend in the summer of 1963 and discover a love of SHAGGING baby!! (As in a certain kind of dancing made popular in that town!!! *wink* )

I couldnt find any clear footage of the dancing from the movie but it has some fantastic choreography that looks like this....

And it was done by the same choreographer as Dirty Dancing. *sigh*

Oh, dont you just love Dirty Dancing?

And the soundtrack is the best!!!

"Sylvia?
Yes Mickey?
How do you call you're loverboy?
Come here loverboy!
And if he doesn't answer?
Oh loverboy!
And if he still doesn't answer?
I simply say!
Baby, oh baby, my sweet baby, you're the one...."

Here is a great link to a youtube video featuring scenes from the movie with the soundtrack (it had the embedding disabled)

What about Swing Kids?

Or Footloose?

Dont you just love a good dance movie! It makes me want to jump up and shake my booty!

What is your favorite dance movie?

  1. Wow!! I have never heard of the "shag" movie, and I had no idea that it was a type of dancing.
Poor, old, sex deprived me (I am referring to the books that I am reading and not my life...wink, wink!!) got all excited and thought that shag dancing would be actual dirty dancing. I was all prepared to hunker down and watch it...lol!!!

One of my favorite dance scenes in a movie, is the waltz between Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner in "The King and I." It is so hot, and of course, he is too!!! (I think that I need to go watch an x-rated movie or something!!! All these good Mormon books are getting to me!!)

PS-Have I told you that you crack me up??!!!

  3. Yes I do love Dirty Dancing...and practice it as often as I can-LOL!!

Chris will only dance when he has enough "spirits" in him to overcome his introverted and shy nature(yea right). Just recently he learned how to do the "Indian Stomp"...so I am hoping for much more time on the dance floor with him soon.;)

  4. I love the old dance movies with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. I think it's the innocence that I find so appealing.

    I do like Dirty Dancing.

  7. My two favorite movies of all time are Footloose and Dirty Dancing. They are both so fun and carefree and just make you want to get up and dance! Maybe one of these days ill actually take some dance lessons and figure it all out so I dont feel so much like a fish out of water on the dance floor...

  8. Have to say I have never seen it - but you know I have seen Dirty Dancing and Footloose.

Looks like you've been bitten by the movie bug too...

  9. An American in Paris is my favorite movie of all time. I also love All That Jazz, A Chorus Line and of course, Flashdance (in addition to Footloose and Dirty Dancing, of course.) Cate Blanchett is lovely and ethereal as a ballet dancer in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

  10. Okay, my sisters and I have been seriously obsessed with Shag since high school! We would walk around saying, "Malaina!" And then we would do the dance that Malaina did with the flag!! LOL!! That movie is the best!!

And I love Footloose and Dirty Dancing, all very wonderful flicks. Ones I can watch over and over again. They just don't make them like they used to!
