Manly Man

Okay, switching gears entirely....

Today I saw a little expose on some show like Entertainment Tonight of Hugh Jackman laying in the sand with waves washing over his shirtless torso, smiling and preening for a camera... he was shooting a spread for some magazine cover. Now, I'm a huge fan of Mr. Hugh Jackman... especially a shirtless Hugh Jackman but I had to scrunch my nose up when I saw him posing and hamming it up for the camera. I get that it was his job and all but there are just some things that even ridiculously sexy men cant manage to do without looking ridiculously un-sexy.

Like when you catch a man looking at his fingernails. Unless he is Clint Eastwood and he's pulling out a massive knife to clean his nails with...all the while giving off this menacing aura of violence...it's just not sexy!

So I ask you this...

What do you think is unmanly?

For me it is seeing a man preen in front of the mirror. Primping is not sexy in my books.

For my friend it is a man who uses an umbrella. She thinks it is horribly unmanly. It could be a Coors umbrella plastered with naked women and she'd still think it was like totally unmanly...

  1. I had to really think about this one...I find most things men do sexy...but eating soup is tough to pull off with machismo.

  2. For some reason, driving down the road yakking on a cell phone. It pisses me off regardless of gender. But men don't seem to multi-task as well as women, who can drive, apply makeup, keep the young 'uns in the back seat under control, yak on the phone AND actually drive. Some women are better at it than others.

  3. Seeing men? in tight spandex with helmets on riding bikes with mirrors on their helmets!Actually saw a guy wearing pink one day. C'mon! They annoy the crap out of me. I know I'm older than most (grew up in th 60's-70's) but the more I look around today I wonder where all the real men have gone. Oh, and another one, men with sweaters tied around their necks, with their glasses held by croakies on a string on the cell phone in the grocery store taking directions from the wife sitting at home.
There, thanks for finally letting me get that off my chest.

  4. *Gack* Where did you get that picture!!!!! I didn't notice until I was scrolling back to the top...

Unmanly - hmmm - okay this is awful but for me men who teach primary school is kinda, well off... (and I know they are great human beings doing a meaningful job, etc.)

  5. First-Country Girl???? LOL!!!!

Second-I cannot stand it when men get manicures and/or pedicures. Seriously??? It kind of goes along with the whole metrosexual thingy. My sister dates a rather femme guy, and he just sort of grosses me out. If you are gay, that's one thing, but it is not manly to act feminine if you are not gay.

Now I could get into a huge discussion about how society constructs stereotypes for boys and girls, but I won't. It is what it is, right? You are either manly or you are not.....And if you are not, that is okay with me. I just won't be attracted to your sexual prowess and or manliness. :)

PS-I hope I don't offend anyone by this comment, as it is just my opinion. :)

  6. Oh my! Funny stuff! I know I notice unmanly turnoffs all the time, but of course can't think of any good ones right now. My big one is crying though. Don't get me wrong, I like a guy that's a *little* sensitive, but I dated a guy for 3 years that I swear pms'd worse than me and definately cried way more than me. It got annoying always having my 6'3" 230 lbs of pure (hot!) muscle construction worker bf crying on my shoulder. I think he checked his balls at the door whenever he was around me and it got old after a while.

The checking their nails and preening thing always gets me too. hehe I like my boys low maintenance! ;) I can be ready in 20 minutes flat, including shower, full face on, dressed, hair "done", etc. and I expect the same from my man! I have to agree on the umbrella thing too. Unless he's holding it for me, not so hot! Oh! And boys with frilly, fruity drinks at the bar. lol SO not my style!

  7. Men who spend more time on their hair or other preening is annoying. Sometimes watching men dance makes me uncomfortable. Gives me the laughing at a funeral kind of feeling...Like you try to keep from laughing, but it just bubbles up.

  9. I've been thinking about this for a few minutes here, but I can't think of anything! I guess I don't mind a guy who is in touch with his feminine side, I say, the more beauty products and clothes he likes to buy, the more of them he'll probably let me buy, LOL! I am kinda a board shorts girl, when Ed on the Bachelorette wore his short mankini shorts, ewwww!
p.s. you always have the best posts! I need to email you, I've been thinking about it and have just been too crazy busy, I'm lucky I got a blog makeover and a few posts in, LOL!

  12. seeing a man drink a wine cooler. YUCK!!! I will turn and walk the other way. I dated a guy once, we went to the local hang out and I ordered a Coors Light and he ordered a Zima. I looked at him and said "please take me home, NOW!"
